I like the way the bike looks. I like how well built it is. Most 12" bikes are cheaply made. We own the deigo bike and the chain continuously falls off so we decided we needed a new one. My son is 3 1/2 and only 10% for height. Unfortunately he is too small for this bike. He has been riding without training wheels for several months now and I was really hoping this was going to work. But like many other reviews said, it is on the bigger side and my sons height just doesn't fit with this bike :(.

This bike is a great size and definately heavy duty as many reviewers have noted. My son has ridden it since he was 2+ and it still fits him at nearly 4. The only "complaint" I have with this bike is that when trying to teach my son without training wheels we realized that this bike is really heavy and has a short wheel base and may not be the best bike to try without the training wheels.

This is a good bike for the price. For a little bit more than other bikes I think you are getting a solidly built bike. That solid build means it is heavier than other bikes as other reviewers have mentioned. My 3 year old boy has not had any problems handling that extra weight -- even up slight inclines. The bike is pretty stable so it will not tip over easily, even when turning.



The shock absorbers obviously aren't necessary for a 3 year old, but I have to admit that they look cool. And they really do work.



I like the fact that it comes with a full chain guard. I knew that would be the first place he would stick his hands and sure enough, he did. I like the real air filled tires (I find it amazing that you can get a bike without real tires).



It was easy to put together and make adjustments. I did it by myself. Just be careful to line the tires up in the middle of the forks.



My only knock against this bike is that the back tire is a little warped. It doesn't affect him riding it or anything, but I can see it wobble slightly as he rides it. The should be able to make a tire that isn't warped. That is why I gave it 4 starts instead of 5. But I am not willing to pay over $200 for a Trek.

Based on the reviews we read on Amazon.com, we bought this bike as a birthday present for our son, who was turning 4. He's had it for almost a month. He did not have much trouble learning to use the bike on his own. His previous set of wheels were the radio flyer's tricycle. We are impressed with the quality of the bike. My husband assembled the bike. He didn't have any trouble. We did buy the bike from Walmart, as someone else had suggested. We had one concern with the bike while we were shopping for one. As I said, our son was turning 4. Most of the reviews we read here pertained to 2 1/2 year olds. Based on his height, it had seemed that a larger bike would've been more appropriate. However, we did not come across a larger bike with the kind of good reviews given on the Tonka. We took a chance with it anyways, and we are glad for it. This past weekend, I overhead a mom commenting on the Tonka at the playground. It seemed that her son was having trouble with his bike. Her son had the larger sized bike, and was about the same height as my son. We thank everyone who wrote a review on this bike. It was most helpful.

I think they spent 70% of the cost to build this bike on the decals instead of quality parts. Every time I turn around something is coming off or falling apart on the stupid thing. The bike seems rickety when my son rides it. It makes me nervous just listening to the thing go down the road. We've had the training wheels fall off...the handlebars get crooked...the pedals come off multiple times (like they unscrew themselves from the bike because they don't turn easily enough on their own)...and today the chain fell off. I have owned bicycles since I was a kid and spent lots of time riding them, and I have never had a chain fall off a bike. My son rides his bike when I go on my morning walk, and it seems that every day or two, I have to fix something on the stupid bike before we can go on our walk. Never again will I buy a bicycle that has decals on it from some popular figure in the media because they spend all their money on that rather than spending the money on building a quality item that is worth what the customer pays for it.

Huffy makes the same bike without the Car decoration and oddly it gets bad reviews even though mechanically it is the same bike and cost under [...] at big chain stores.



This was a good price for this bike my one complaint is my son is only tall enough for the seat to be all the way down and when the seat is all the way down the cranks are a little too long and make it hard to ride but he will grow into it. He was to tall for a 12" and on the border for 16".



This bike seems solid the only thing I see wearing out are things easily replaced and normal wear a tear. (tires, peddles, handle grips,)

Strength has nothing to do with weight in bicycles. I've had this bike for two years now. My oldest is 6 and a half and last year he could barely push this beast along. It's just too heavy. I have to push him first until he gains momentum. This year I was hopeful to finally take the training wheels off but after our first ride I can see I'm going to give up and get something lighter. My full size Marin is about half the weight of this and just as "strong."

Before reading this, please understand that we sold our car last summer, so our family uses bikes for every-day commuting, be it to/from work, to/from preschool, or just grocery shopping. Bikes are less "toys" for us, than hard-working transportation that must function well!



We got this for my son for the holidays, just before his 4th Birthday. There were some issues with the manufacturer that delayed shipping, but the seller made herculean (and successful!) efforts to make sure the bikes all arrived by Christmas.



My husband assembled this bike late Christmas Eve in the livingroom. While the manual was less than helpful for this (Schwinn, apparently, makes one general manual that covers all types of bikes, and therefore doesn't feel it necessary to make model-specific manuals -- or assembly instructions!), he was able to get it ready in a reasonable amount of time. Like all bikes, it comes with the tires deflated, so I had to take it to get air in them. (Perhaps this is why one reviewer complained the tires were fat and soft?)



I was immediately impressed with how sturdy the bike is. Strong. It looked cool -- it was also going to withstand anything my son was likely to put it through in the years to come!



The first time my son tried it, we discovered the training wheels were set too low: The rear tire wasn't making enough contact with the ground to give "drive". A two-second adjust, and that was fixed.



The low "rise" in front of the seat makes it easy for little boys to get on. The combination of coaster and hand-brakes gives many options for learning to stop. One unexpected "bonus"? The front pegs actually keep the weight of the bike OFF the body during falls!



We've had the bike for one month now. He's gone from shakily riding to the corner while I strolled slowly next to him, to riding it to school (a 3-mile trip).



PROS:

* Sturdy contstruction

* "real bike" quality

* coaster AND full-caliper brakes

* Reflectors

* Quick-adjust seat

* Front pegs make falls safer (who knew?)

* Bike is tall enough for an adult to "walk" without breaking their back

* Can easily keep up with an adult on a full-sized bike.



CONS:

* My son's hands are not yet LONG enough to use the caliper brakes, because the levers are so far from the handlebars.

* Handlebar structure makes it difficult to mount a basket

* Training wheels are loud. (But, then, all training wheels are loud.)

I regret bargain shopping for a bike chain. Within 1 week, the master link broke off. The links just feel cheap and using it w/o a master link causes the connecting links to lock up sometimes. Considering it is KMC, which is normally reputable, I am disappointed and a little scared to ride with it.



Point of story: don't bargain shop for a chain! pay the extra money for an SRAM.

I have a bad back and have really gotten out of shape because of it. I bought with goal of accomplishing fun exercise and fitness without hurting my back as usual - plus my young son will ride his scooter with me and let me do this for exercise. It's great. I used to ride a skateboard about 20-25 years ago and it made me feel a little bit like a little girl again!

You have to use your core muscles for balance on this so it does help use those although you will not feel that either during or after. Balancing and moving are fun enough that you will get a sweat up and be out of breathe without noticing it when you are playing around - which is great news for other adults like me who can find fitness to be a chore! I throw this in the car for the park or ride it around the neighborhood and keep up with my son on his bike because it is easier on my back and a (better) workout - plus it's a great size.

For all the other folks: my sisters are really fit and have no physical issues and they tried it out and really liked it too. They were surprised at the tight turns and balance that it took to ride this. You could tell they enjoyed the speed, too. They never got into skating so they were surprised about how fun it was and that you used your muscles to ride it. Bottom line is this: it easily allows you to work up to how much balance you will need and the more balance you use the more fun you have (and the faster you can go)!

Lastly, my nephews have all requested one of these for their birthdays and the kids in my neighborhood always ask to borrow it :) - it's fun.
