 "Great Scooter!" 2007-11-29
By Lizvage
I'm very happy with this scooter. The wheels are larger and the foot board has a higher ground clearance so it is safer than cheaper scooters. Your child is less likely to go flying if he or she hits a bump in the sidewalk. It has a hand break as well as a foot break, which is a nice option if a child gets flustered and has trouble working the foot break. Although my 4 foot tall 6 yo is large enough to use it, I think it will be even better in a couple years. The handle is not height adjustable but it does fold down. I'd say it is best for children between 4 and 5 feet. I'm 5' 2" and it is just a trifle too short for me (but I enjoy riding it anyway). I want the adult version!

 "BEST SCOOTER EVER" 2005-03-29

Go-Peds are the best scooter ever! Having had a Razor for nearly five years, I can justly compare the two and honestly say the Go Ped far surpasses the Razor. Not only is the Go -Ped durable, unlike the Razor, which is easily worn, but it is so very trendy, a styling gadget in today's latest faze with candy colors and outrageous shapes. Boasting a palette of electric green, flamingo pink, firetruck red, cobalt blue, and sunny yellow, the Go-Ped proves the ultimate in cool. A must have for today's on the go!

 "Great ride for kids." 2009-05-11
By Gram M. (New York)
I bought this for my 6 yr. old grandson. It was pretty easy to put together. My grandson just loves this scooter. The four wheels gives it good balance, better than the 2 wheel types. I would recommend this for any child over 5 years of age.

By Debra E. Grinaway
This was for an 8 year old boy. He loves it. He had a Razor a couple of years ago and it seemed so dangerous. This is very sturdy and we're happy with it as parents. He hasn't been able to take it outside yet, due to snow, but he zooms around the house with it. We couldn't be happier.

"Most comfortable helmet I've owned..BRING BACK THE POD!" 2009-06-26
By Y. R. Wu (Ann Arbor Michigan)
In 20 years of road and mountain biking I've had 3 Giros, 2 Bell, and 1 Louis Garneau helmet. This is hands down my favorite. It's the lightest and breathes the best. Even on a recent ride in 94F / 65% humidity / Sunny, my head didn't feel hot. (well, hotter than the rest of me, it was a pretty brutal ride to be honest)

It's super light and very comfortable. You barely feel it on your head.

The reasons I knock it down to 4 stars:

1) Pads are quite sparse and in particular they don't cover the forehead very well. There's also a gap in the center. For me this means that sweat runs into my eyes - as it evaporates it's not sweat but concentrated salt water. Ouch! (Other helmets I've had with larger forehead pads delay this issue. There are head bands on the market for this exact issue, however)

2) The rear plastic head straps are covered in a rubber coating, which cracked within a month or two - doesn't affect the function or comfort as there is a stronger plastic material underneath, but a disappointment given the price.

3) On the underside there are 3 small areas where the foam is melted or looks like it was attacked by a solvent - surface defects really, and you never see it. Doesn't affect function or external appearance but at this price I guess I expect more.

My helmet was from 2008 when they still included a rigid carry pod. Apparently they don't make this anymore, which is a shame since it is a super nice feature - protect your helmet, carry your gloves, Gu and Powerbars too (It was well ventilated so things don't get stinky). - you can still get them on Ebay though...Specialized now makes one too but the Giro one looked nicer.

If you've found this review to be helpful, please let me know!

"Wrong colors on the website" 2009-05-16
By Vinicius D. Campos (USA)
The helmet is great and thanks to GIRO. The colors on the advertisement on the website are wrong, I got the Pink/Silver helmet following the colors as indicated on the picture on the website, I thought it would have details in Pink/silver and most of it would be black as on the picture, but it is completely different, is all silver/White/Rose (not pink). Is a shame to have mistakes like these nowadays where you can find cameras avery cellphone.....and I pay for the mistake!!!

 "bad experience " 2008-07-19
By Mem Ber (S.F)
Reading many reviews on that helmet and being a pro cyclist I placed that order.

The helmet arrived late , I was already gone to Europe for a training camp for the all summer till sept, so a friend had to bring it to me.

When I got it I was surprised to see it looked like a refurbished or used helmet with very bad manufacturing quality or an old stock , I am very disappointed but I'm still in Europe and cant return it.

i dont know if the problem is the helmet maker or the vendor

"The helmet for people who don't want to wear a helmet...." 2008-05-23
By a reader (chicago)
I always rode as a young girl on my bmx bike, down stairs and through the streets, with no helmet. It was the early 80's and no one wore helmets... As an adult I went for a while riding without one, but ultimately, we all know it's something we should do. Having someone in my family sustain brain injuries REALLY drove that point home.

This helmet was way more money than I wanted to spend on a helmet but it's the ONLY helmet I've ever tried on that felt, well, barely there.... You can easily forget that you're wearing it, which is what I was looking for. After all, I wanted to use it every day, not spend $50 on a helmet I hated and would never wear. The atmos also leaves your senses intact... I sometimes feel like my hearing or quickness of response would be influenced when I try on a bulky hemet. I DO use it all the time and will buy another once mine gets too old. Also, having a smaller head, most helmets look awful on me, like I was attacked by fungus and turned into a mushroomhead. The atmos tapers nicely around the edges which looks way better.

The adjustment on the helmet is great and easy, plus the straps stay in a good spot and you can adjust their angle too. The only tiny thing I'd change is the same thing an earlier reviewer noted... where the helmet meets the very top of the head is a little bit flat for my head, so there is small contact point there that I wish weren't there. Aside from that It's perfect and thanks Giro!

I commute as year round as I can in Chicago, so in the winter I just slap on a helmet cover over it and a thinly knit hat underneath and it becomes amply warm enough.

Lastly, the most glowing Giro helmet recommendation probably comes from Wisconsin. My husband and I were riding up there when we heard that some student nearby had been hit by a truck. Actually, he fell under it and the truck wheel ran over his head. He was wearing one of their helmets and was absolutely fine (at least physically) and went on to pass his school exams that same month.

 "What a helmet!" 2008-03-16
By J. Otero (Massachusetts)
This helmet has fantastic, circulation, is light, and comes in several sizes and color combinations.

Two slight negatives:

1. No sun visor, but I solved that by buying the visor for a similar model, drilling holes in this one and gluing it in place.

2. The padding is sparse, so it feels a bit uncomfortable on the top of the scalp.

 "Solid Helmet" 2009-08-05
By Jeremy J. Ekeler (Western Springs, IL)
Probably aren't going to find a better helmet for the price. I bought it because my old one was so clunky and loose-fitting. This one fits really well and is much lighter. It's not exactly streamline from front to back but carries more helmet up front and ends bluntly in the back. For the type of riding I do (around town and throgh trails on a mountain bike) this is perfect. The visor is nice and I fit sunglasses under the straps with ease.

"Light and comfortable; awesome upgrade helmet!" 2009-07-21
By Robert Larson (Dana Point, CA United States)
Just starting biking instead of driving about 2 months ago, and needed a helmet that was comfortable, looked good, and was still affordable. After a bit of research, I learned that the better helmets were lighter, while still giving the same amount of protection. More openings in the helmet meant better air flow (so your head stays cool), lighter weight, but also a bit higher price tag.

After comparing a few helmets on Amazon in the $50 range, I decided on this one based on the look and what I perceived to be a good air flow. I've put over 300 miles on my bike so far, and I can honestly say it's easy to forget the helmet is even on. Having only worn toy-store quality hemets before, this was an incredible upgrade.

It's feather-light, and it rests on my head comfortably with an easy-to-use dial at the back for making it fit snugly. The straps looked a bit uncomfortable at first sight, but as soon as you snap the buckle together you forget they are there.

AND THE AIRFLOW! WOW!! I don't even know if that's the right word for it... but this helmet keeps my head very cool. I live in SoCal with 75-90 degree weather lately, but even with commutes as long as 20 miles, the wind rushes right through the helmet, across my head as I ride, and my head does not get hot and sweaty.

I don't know how they did it, but thank you Giro for this gift to bikers!

 "Good, secure, inexpensive helmet" 2009-07-14
By Alexander Timofeyev
I liked the ventilation design of the Rift better than the cheaper Indicator, and I liked the Accu-Dial system on Rift better than on the more expensive Phase (the Rift felt more secure). If the Rift had 3 different sizes like the Phase does, it would be perfect.

Pros: Inexpensive; very secure fit; front band is very good at catching sweat and keeping it out of your eyes; looks good; comfortable enough.

Cons: Straps seem to lie oddly, and took a while to get adjusted initially so they felt right; one-size-fits-all design can make you feel like you're wearing a helmet that's too big.

"Nice looking design / a little snug for my giant head" 2009-06-12
By Timothy Mcdonald (Marysville, WA)
A large head doesn't necessarily result in larger brain capacity, but anyway. I ordered this helmet using leftover credit card points so the price was right. I'd been using my Specialized helmet since the late 80's so I figured I'd better replace it. I was looking rather dated wearing it and if I did fall and hit my head I wondered if 20+ years of use would protect my head. I tried a cheapo Schwinn helmet from Target about a year ago and went back to the Specialized after about a week. The Giro Rift is a very nice looking helmet and modern looking compared to my current helmet. It fits my head too snug though, and that's with the universal adjuster all the way to the max size. I didn't really want to but I cut the adjuster out completely and the helmet fits really nice now. I'm in the process of losing weight so the chin strap is bugging me a touch but hopefully in the next couple months I won't notice it. If I notice the helmet when I ride then it's not usually a good thing. The Rift is lightweight and I didn't really notice it was up there. All in all a good buy I'd say, even if it was with points.

 "Chin strap problems" 2009-08-18
By David Barr (Illinois)
I purchased the helmet because of price and general reputation and the advice of a friend with a helmet of the same brand. This helmet, however, has positioned the safety chin straps where they intersect the rear inside of the helmet in such a way that they bunch up and poke the back of your head. We put extra cushioning there, which helps, but should not be needed. Our Trek helmet is much more comfortable.

 "Good for the money" 2009-08-14
By Noel Hermogenes (NYC)
I bought the black one. Good considering it's only $30. Take time getting it fitted to your head. Or else, you might get a nasty headache if it is too tight. It comes with extra foam paddings to stick inside the helmet where ever you think it is necessary. There is an adjustable wheel at the back to customize the fit to your head.

The helmet is made of compressed styrofoam. I am a motorcyclist and was surprised helmets are made of this material instead of much harder composite materials. I guess this material makes it light and shock absorbent. The picture (in black) looks like it has a matt-black, carbon-fiber look to it. In reality, it has a shiny, plasticky finish. Aside from that unfortunate business, I am happy with this purchase.

"This helmet saved my life!" 2009-07-15
By Davide Scarnecchia
I was looking for a decent helmet for a low price. I didn't care if it worked, because I didn't plan on ever crashing.

Well, I did crash and the helmet did work. It took the impact and shattered (I hit the pavement HARD!), but my head was fine. I'm absolutely convinced that if I wasn't wearing a helmet, I'd be dead or in the hospital.

How could I not buy another one?

It fits great (with adjustments), breathes well, looks good, and is reasonably priced. There are other helmets out there for a LOT more money, but I know this one works. I trust my life to this helmet.

"Giro Transfer Sport Bike Helmet" 2009-07-06
By Healthy_Reviewer (MI)
29 buck price is good. Style is ok but too dramatic. Very hot despite all the vents. I was itching and sweating. The fit is great but the forehead area doesn't breath. Maybe it needs extra cushioning or a sweatband or something. The straps around the ears and neck are irritating sometimes too. It's weird because I have a similar Giro helmet, a 2002 "Transit" which is actually much more comfortable than this updated one as well as lighter. It's more smooth, egg-shaped without being too flashy like this one. I'm still looking for a replacement. I'll hang onto this for cooler weather. I'm thinking about investing in a Hex but it's still pricey.

 "Giro Bike Helmet" 2009-07-04
By Elisa Taylor (Tennessee)
Only wore it once, but it was a very nice helmet (problem with new bike....ended up with a different bicycle and color, so helmet no longer matched; Amazon was great about accepting it back). Helmet was very lightweight and airy, and very adjustable. I had a little trouble figuring out the neck straps, but once that was done, I was very pleased. The detailed description made me think that there was a visor that could be added, but there was not one. The picture never showed one, so that should have been an indicator to me. I was very pleased with the helmet, and I would recommend it to anyone.
