This is my 10yr old's first bike with gears. 24" bikes are scarce to begin with, and we needed gears for hill climbs. I love the fact that the gears are all on the rear shifter, with no front derailler. The front derailler shifters can be problematic, and we don't need to complicate things more than necessary. He keeps up with my 21-speed bike just fine. Good stout bike, quality components, great brakes, easy assembly.
